Sanctuary churches courageously provide shelter for refugees facing deportation. Yet many of the 250,000+ congregations in the U.S. are unable to make that level of commitment. There must be an alternative for those who want to help!
The Safe Harbors Network (SafeHarbors.NET) is a modern alternative that enables congregations, individuals, and organizations to sponsor and/or host refugees (documented or otherwise).
Christ Ministry Center (CMC) became a “refugee camp” in the heart of San Diego when 6,000 Haitian refugees unexpectedly crossed the U.S./Mexico border in 2016. More than 5,000 of these refugees found shelter, food, clothing, and essentials at CMC.
This session will share lessons learned in this humanitarian crisis, especially in providing refugees their most immediate need: shelter. Learn how Safe Harbors can provide a much-needed update and alternative to the Sanctuary Movement.
